Is exfoliation and doing microdermabrasion at home the same thing?

If exfoliators, microdermabrasion treatments and resurfacing masks all take the dead skin cells off, what's the difference? Or is it a fancy way of saying the same thing. There are exfoliating products, microdermabrasion products and I can't tell if they do the same thing.Is exfoliation and doing microdermabrasion at home the same thing?
same thing...microdermabrasion though at a dermatologist is far stronger than the bought kits...
