You might be using an oil and salt scrub, these scrubs are meant for the body and not the face. An oil and salt scrub is great for the body (if you're not prone to acne on your body) because it moisturizes and exfoliates, however pure oil on the face is usually not a good idea.

Make sure you're using a scrub formulated for use on the face, and make sure it's labeled with ';Exfoliating beads'; because other scrubs contain grains with sharp edges that cause microtearing of the skin, which leads to premature aging and sensitivity. A good scrub for a reasonable price is Garnier Fructis daily scrub (which can be found in your local super market or drug store)

You should not scrub more than twice a week, and not more than once a week unless your face is very prone to break outs. You should not scrub any area of your face for more than 30 seconds, and doing your entire face should not take more than about a minute and a half. You should scrub lightly using the pads of your fingers and avoid the eye area.

If you have a lot of red pimples or white heads (the technical terms are Papules for the red ones, and Pustules for the white headed ones) with inflammation you should probably use a chemical exfoliant mask instead of a scrub. I would recommend Pevonia Enzymo Spherides, Alba Organics Papaya Enzyme mask (which is a little less gentle, but cheap), or Ole Henrickson Blue/Black Berry Enzyme Mask .

You should wear a full spectrum sunscreen every day with an SPF of at least 15, though SPF 30 is better, especially if you exfoliate. Although exfoliating will make the skin look fresher you also make it more vulnerable to the damaging UV rays of the sun and fluorescent lights. UV radiation causes skin cancer and premature aging, so you really should wear sunblock. If you're worried about breaking out, wear an oil free non-comedogenic sunblock, like DDF ultra-light oil free moisturizing dew SPF 15, Peter Thomas Roth powder sunblock, or Peter Thomas Roth oil free moisturizer SPF 30. A cheaper alternative is Kiss My Face facial sunblock SPF 30 which I've found to be very effective. What is exfoliation? how to use a scrub on my face?
exfoliating scrubs the dead skin away so your face should feel refreshed and cool afterwards. make sure you rinsed it all off or buy a new scrub.
